speech #2 source

For speech #2 I chose Moondog. I thought his name was cool and was really hoping that it was on the Cleveland Cavalier's mascot, however to my dismay it was not! So I began asking people if anyone knew who Moondog was but to no avail no one did so it was time to hit the library. Again nothing, only a wikipedia entry for him existed at my local library. I approached the librarian behind the desk and asked for help. After sometime he found a book thru Ohio link entitled,
Scotto, Robert. MOONDOG THE VIKING OF 6TH AVENUE The Authorized Biography,Process media,2007.Print. I found the book to be very informative. To check to make sure the book was a credible source I checked out the author, Robert Scotto and found that he not only won best biography in 2008 but also won the 2008 award for excellence in historical recorded sound research. I also learned from researching on Moondogs official webpage that Robert Scotto knew Moondog personally and had several interviews with him throughout his life. Sounded good to me so I began my research.

Crooked River Burning

I must say that it took me longer to start reading this book than our other one. The font is smaller and for my age that can be a problem -LOL. This book is longer and I do not care for long books. But once I began reading it, it began to flow. I like that it is based on cleveland so I find myself "IN" the book. I can place my self within the settings which I find quite"ccol". The writer however gets a little too involved than I like, to much information on the characters and a little wordy. Perhaps as I get further along this will become more interesting and less of a bother.

iousa

This film was very eye opening! It shed a bright light on the current Federal deficit and the extreme situation America is in. It spoke how the debt is increasing at an alarming rate. It stated valid reasons how America is responsible for the debt and how we as Americans can help to reduce it. The movie did an excellent job in painting the real picture and hopefully each individual who views it will take it seriously and begin to help remedy this intense situation we are ALL IN!
My response to the above film is varied. First off I agree with the fact the America is indeed in a horrible financial mess and we as Americans are responsible for a huge part of it, however I feel that the films impact is minimal due to the fact that it is contingent upon the amount of viewers who take the time to watch it. And finally while I appreciate the message of the film I found it irrelevant to what we are studying in class.

good byes are never easy-CMB blog post #6

In Color Me Butterfly, Marlow shares a poignant moment with the reader “Well I guess this is it.”(411)

Treasure is preparing her self and her personal belongings to go off to college. Her mother Lydia is feeling a little melancholy because her daughter is leaving. They enjoy a quiet ride in the car to the college and after Treasure gets settled in it is time for her mother to leave, they exchange a moment of heavy heartedness as they say good bye and Lydia departs. This part of the book touched me deeply as I just took my daughter off to Ohio State University. My daughter and I are very close and it is hard to say goodbye to her and visa versa. Although we all know she will be fine and it will be good for her it is still difficult. I look forward to her coming home, always!

peer review

I was fortunate to have my peer review done by Liv. She has a knack for writing and very poetic in her prose, therefore I got to benefit from her wisdom and creativity. She gave me much positive feedback coupled with good advice and comments to help me revise my essay to not only read better but to present better also. She also taught me how to edit my essay with the handy functions within my computer. Functions I didn't even know existed. I can use her expertise with this assignment and the ones that follow. This assignment is teaching me skills that I will apply in my future classes. It has been a great learning tool, both the actual writing of the essay along with the peer review.

Deller

I feel Deller is a constructed knower. Right from the beginning she shows signs of constructive knowing. On page 56 she "tells Ben only things she wants him to know." This is a good example of contextual truth and inter subjective knowledge. She shows a strong core ability when she defends her mother to Issac by jumping on his back and digging her nails into him. She displays a dynamic change in self when she chooses to forgive Issac, her father and brings him into her home and life. She demonstrates authority when she admits him into a nursing home(pg.288) when she realizes it is too difficult to care for him on her own. I find her dialog to be very straightforward and unwavering. I feel Deller processes qualities of a constructed knower from beginning to end.

be the best you can be

Thus being my thesis for my essay. Sounds kinda boring I know like I am preaching to my children. But I try to start my day with this each day, knowing if I am at my best always then I really don't mind when things go wrong or people find fault with me. I have grown up with this mantra and yes I do encourage my own children as well as the children I teach to be at their best. I encourage strangers to do the same. Try it someday you may thank me, who know you may even share it with others!
