be the best you can be

Thus being my thesis for my essay. Sounds kinda boring I know like I am preaching to my children. But I try to start my day with this each day, knowing if I am at my best always then I really don't mind when things go wrong or people find fault with me. I have grown up with this mantra and yes I do encourage my own children as well as the children I teach to be at their best. I encourage strangers to do the same. Try it someday you may thank me, who know you may even share it with others!

My thoughts so far on Color Me Butterfly…
This book caught my attention as soon as I began to read it. As the story unfolds however I thought why are on earth are we reading this? What does this have to do education or our personnel development? After our class discussion that became clear.
When the “beatings began I was extremely disturbed. Enough that I had to tell everyone I knew about the book and how disturbing it was. I have found it to be fast paced and very intriguing, a good read, one that I don’t want to put down. I find myself asking,”what will Isaac do next, and why? As unnerving as this book is, I am excited to continue on with it and can’t wait till she, Eloise stands up for herself and her children!
My philosophy of education derives from teaching little ones, my degree in early childhood education and having raised 3 children of my own. I was taught to teach with much praise, positive reinforcement and enthusiasm, using real life experiences to make it fun, exciting and logical. I practice this style of teaching on a daily basis and have found that children respond well.

How I learn best… I learn best by "doing", getting my hands dirty, embracing the project using all 5 senses, experimenting within an actual realm. Sitting there in the classroom being lectured to is a “drag” and honestly I find myself daydreaming or worse falling asleep!

Education is a privilege. A privilege that is to be valued and respected. As I I witness my children's educators I find this value to be instilled and taught throughout their learning. I hope this trend continues for them and they can apply it to their continued education and along to their own children someday.
